Spinneys entered Lebanon in 1948, but ceased operations in early 1970s due to the civil war, only to come back thirty years later, pioneering the hypermarket concept in Lebanon. Spinneys’ expansion accelerated after the tremendous success of its first flagship store, and the brand has now 16 branches across the country.
The year 2010 witnessed a new era in the history of grocery shopping in Lebanon, with Spinneys introducing its new identity reflecting style and elegance; the “shop in style” concept.
Spinneys also leads the e-tailing concept in Lebanon with its online platform launched in 2012 enabling shoppers to experience an advanced web and app experience.
As part of its expansion plan, Spinneys will be opening 4 main stores between 2022 and 2023 in Sahel Alma, Zahle, Mansourieh and Ajaltoun and 5 main stores between 2023 and 2024 in Zahle, Amyoun, Ajaltoun, Hamra, Mansourieh
In 2025, Spinneys brand is set to make its debut in the Iraqi market with the inauguration of its flagship store at Iraq Mall, Baghdad’s largest upscale shopping center. Additionally, Spinneys plans to expand its footprint in Baghdad in the subsequent years through the establishment of multiple branches throughout the capital.

In 2014, Gray Mackenzie Retail Lebanon introduced an innovative retail concept to the Lebanese consumer, with the launch of Happy Discount Store as the first discount store in the country offering the lowest prices in the market all year long. In addition to providing local brands at cost, Happy Discount Store offers a wide range of high-quality exclusively imported products at competitive prices.
In 2020, it was voted as the lowest in price supermarket in Lebanon over a national study.
Currently operates a network of 15 stores with a rapid expansion plan and 3 coming new stores in 2023-24.

In 2024, the French retail chain Monoprix will re-enter the local market through a franchise agreement with Gray Mackenzie Retail Lebanon (GMRL). GMRL will manage and expand Monoprix’s operations by opening new stores, starting with one in Hamra in September.
